Creating a Chrysanthemum garden

Published by at 10:34 am under General Gardening

Spring is such a busy time of year for me, I am always changing my plants around and creating new gardens in my yard. This year I am going to create a chrysanthemum garden, they are one of my favorite fall flowers. They take some extra care to do their best, but I feel like they are worth it.

I have football mums and cushion mums and I even have one mum that looks very much like daisies when it is in bloom. I have had to divide it a few times because it keeps outgrowing its home.

Chrysanthemums like full sun and regular garden soil, with organic matter added to it. They don’t like to have overly damp soil, and will die if they are planted in soil that doesn’t drain well.

I am creating my mum garden on one edge of my property line that sits on a knoll, so drainage should not be a problem. They will have a row of Thuga ‘Green Giant’ behind them to shelter them from the cold north winds.

I have studied my yard for years, and I have finally settled on this spot, time will tell if I have chosen correctly. Besides, If it turns out wrong I will still have another flower bed to plant more plants in!
